There is nothing quite like sleeping on the water, anchored in a peaceful cove under a blanket of stars. But there is also nothing quite like waking up at 2:00 AM to find your standard retail fitted sheet has snapped completely off your mattress, tangled around your legs due to a poorly fitting design.

Because boat berths are engineered to maximize cabin space, they feature aggressive tapers, clipped corners, and unusual angles. Standard rectangular home sheets simply cannot handle a boat's dynamic environment. If you want a comfortable night's rest on your vessel, investing in tailored marine custom bedding is essential.

At MildMate Bedding, we specialize in crafting millimeter-perfect V-berth sheets and yacht mattress sheets. To help you eliminate "math anxiety" and avoid mistakes, here is our simple guide to accurately measuring your V-berth mattress in under five minutes.

The 4 Key Dimensions Every Boat Owner Needs

To sketch out a perfect layout for your custom boat bedding, grab a flexible construction tape measure or a fabric measuring tape, remove your current blankets, and record these five crucial dimensions:

  1. A — Head Width (The Top Widest Section)
Measure straight across the widest part of the mattress, usually where your pillows rest. Be sure to measure the maximum flat surface from the left edge to the right edge.
  2. B — Foot Width (The Nose / Toe Section)
Move to the narrowest part at the bow end of the bed. Some V-berths taper all the way to a sharp "V" point, while others have a small flat section known as a nose or a clipped foot. Measure the exact width of this flat nose block.
  3. C — Overall Center Line Length (Top to Bottom)
Find the exact midpoint of your Head Width (A) and measure a straight line down the absolute center of the mattress all the way to the midpoint of the Foot Width (B). This gives us the total vertical length of your sleeping surface.
  4. D — Mattress Thickness (Pocket Depth)
Do not forget the vertical dimension! Measure from the very bottom edge of the mattress foam to the top surface. If you use a custom foam topper, include it in this measurement. At MildMate, we use this to engineer our 360° Perimeter Elastic Grip System, giving your fitted sheet a heavy-duty anchor that stays locked in place even when the boat rolls.

Engineered for the Water: The CloudSoft Advantage

Getting a flawless fit is only half the battle; fabric choice matters just as much in marine environments. Boat cabins are naturally prone to trapping ambient humidity and salty sea air.

For premium marine setups, we craft our custom sheets exclusively using our CloudSoft Collection. This highly engineered 120 GSM double-brushed microfiber is specifically built to be:
